Oh so scary karaoke

The latest gossip from MSN:

Tom and Katie Sing for Scientology

One of the outer rings of Brooke Shields' personal vision of Hell came scarily to life over the weekend as Tom Cruise warbled rock-and-roll standards in front of several thousand of his fellow Scientologists.

According to People, the occasion was a weekend charity dinner at the organization's British headquarters in East Grinstead, where the proselytizing star and his glassy-eyed future baby mama Katie Holmes joined singer Isaac Hayes on stage.

The "Dianetics"-loving duo then treated the 3,000 guests, who had ponied up $350 a plate, to their vocal stylings on "Mustang Sally" and "Old Time Rock and Roll," the latter of which is the same song an oh-so-different Cruise danced around to in his tighty-whities in "Risky Business."

"They were laughing and smiling and talking to the crowd," an audience member tells the mag. "The crowd started dancing." (Also dancing that night, says the London Daily Mail, was John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston, who hoofed onstage to "Stand by Me.")

Prior to the duet, Cruise received a standing ovation as he was presented with the newly created Diamond Meritorious Award for being the sect's largest donor ever, reports the London Sunday Mirror.

The tarnished A-lister has purportedly forked over about $3.5 million since joining the group about two decades ago, a generous sum that should ensure the e-meter supply never runs low.

"It has been an amazing event and it is even more amazing that Tom has brought Katie," one participant told the paper. "It feels really good knowing that she is one of us now."
